Sabancı University Achieves the Largest Single Rise in Türkiye in QS 2026 Rankings

The results of the 2026 World University Rankings by Subject, prepared by the prestigious UK-based higher education ranking organization QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), have been announced. Sabancı University stood out as the university that achieved the largest single rise and the most subject-based increases among the leading universities in Türkiye. 

 

 

Sabancı University, which is included in the ranking covering a total of 55 narrow subjects under five broad subject areas, was included in 11 narrow subjects this year, as it was last year, and managed to enter the top 300 in three subjects. Compared to the previous year, the university improved its performance by showing an increase in 6 of the 11 narrow subjects in which it was ranked. 

In this year's evaluation, which ranked 1912 universities worldwide, Sabancı University achieved a significant success by rising to the 251-300 band in the subjects of Electrical-Electronics Engineering, Business Administration and Management, and Political Science and International Relations. 

The QS World University Rankings by Subject evaluates the academic performance of universities in specific disciplines based on indicators such as Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, citations per paper, H-Index, and international research network.

Significant Rise in Engineering and Technology 

Sabancı University made significant progress in the Engineering and Technology subject, rising from 308th place last year to 266th place this year. In this subject, Sabancı University, which rose 57 places in 2025 compared to the previous year, also achieved a significant increase of 42 places in the 2026 ranking, becoming the university with the largest rise in a single year among universities from Türkiye included in the ranking. The Electrical-Electronics Engineering subject showed a remarkable increase, moving from the 301-350 band to the 251-300 band. The Computer Science and Information Technologies subject also continued its development, rising from the 401-450 band to the 351-400 band. The subject of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Manufacturing Engineering was ranked in the 351-400 band this year. 

Strong Position in Social Sciences

In the broad subject area of Social Sciences and Management, Sabancı University increased its international visibility by rising from 389th place last year to 353rd place this year. Rising 36 places in this category, Sabancı University achieved the biggest increase in a single year among universities from Türkiye included in the ranking. The subject of Business Administration and Management made a significant leap, rising from the 301-350 band to the 251-300 band. The subject of Political Science and International Relations made strong progress, rising from the 301-400 band to the 251-300 band. The subject of Economics and Econometrics showed remarkable development, rising from the 451-500 band to the 351-400 band. The subject of Accounting and Finance maintained its position in the 301-375 band, as it did last year. 

Consistent Performance in Natural Sciences 

Sabancı University maintained its consistent performance in the subjects within the Natural Sciences. The subject of Materials Science made significant progress, rising from the 401–550 band to the 351–400 band. The subject of Mathematics remained in the 401–450 band, as it did last year. The subject of Physics and Astronomy also maintained its position in the 551–600 band.

Biological Sciences, which is included in the broad subject area of Life Sciences and Medicine, entered the ranking in the 651–700 band this year, demonstrating the university's continued academic presence in different disciplines. 

The rise recorded by Sabancı University in many subjects reflects the strengthening of its international research performance and the increase in its global academic visibility. The QS World University Rankings by Subject is among the most important global assessments that comparatively reveal the research strength of universities on a discipline basis.
